YouTube Yoodles Olympics

Brief

Illustrations from every continent to bring the energy for
Paris Olympics 2024.

We drew inspiration from YouTube's sporting community from everyday runners to ping pong enthusiasts. Celebrating them and their platform as a place of shared passion, no matter where you are in the world.

Our challenge was to bring the action of each sport to life in a small format whilst maintaining legibility and impact. We used a limitied colour palette and considered how movement, expression and form would translate from storyboard to animation.

From the speed of table tennis to the smoothness of an olympic level golf swing, the animations captured the feeling of playing the sport, and the homepage promo was a chance to hero the spirit of each sport on a larger scale, whilst spotlighting the artists style.

Wrestling can be perceived as a more competitive sport, but London-based Taiwanese illustrator An Chen brought a playfulness to the depiction of the sport. With clean, angular lines and shapes, she transforms organic objects into bold, dynamic designs.

Olivia Blanc put the wrestlers into action with clever moves and a tense dynamic background creating an exciting wrestling showdown.

Bringing inspiration from nature and the nostalgic style of graphic art of the 70’s, Austin-based illustrator Kate Delher elevated the experience of golf, celebrating the shared community spirit and playfulness of golf in her illustration.

Fabien Rousseau made the drive fly across the fairway with his awesome animation skills, taking us on a journey of a golf ball.

A hole in one from the team!

Working with illustrator Daniel Batista, based in Guarapuava, Brazil, we created vibrant, energetic and core-strong illustrations, celebrating the fun and magic of Gymnastics on YouTube through Daniel’s strong characters, vibrant colours, and funny narratives.

Brought to life by the animator David Stumpf, our gymnasts were poised and ready for every twist, jump and pose.

For Running, it was no surprise that we collaborated with Jack Fletcher, Edinburgh-based illustrator (and passionate runner) whose dynamic linework and wide-angle perspectives made us want to get up and sprint around the studio.

Tucker Klein made the runners move across the different landscapes, with his awesome animation skills.

Cape Town-based illustrator Russell Abrahams sparked the high energy of table tennis with his playful and colourful, comic-book style depicting an intense match between two players swooping and swerving to make their shot.

Rachel Reid expertly brought the action to life with her incredible animation skills. Check out the speed of those paddles.

Highlighting YouTubes sporting community, we reached millions globally with dynamic illustrations at a time where the love of sport was most present.
